My biggest complaint here would be the hash browns as they come as oily strips piled on the plate. If you’re looking for more savory items, there are of course sides like sausage, bacon, and hash browns. Pancakes will definitely fill you up and give you a full feeling when you leave. It’s hard to go wrong with a pile of pancakes dipped in sweet syrup, so in this regard Black Bear does a nice job. In fact, Black Bear takes pride in giving you a meal that will stick to your ribs. As I mentioned before, the meals here are large and designed to fill you up. It’s a nice touch that really fits the general aesthetic of the restaurant’s environment.įor breakfast you can order pancakes, waffles, French toast, as well as omelettes and breakfast burritos. The menu comes to you in the form of an old paper newspaper. All of them are popular on weekend mornings as families crowd into them for an early meal. These restaurants serve similar styles of meals and are similar in price points. I would compare Black Bear Diner most directly with Denny’s and IHOP. For any other meal, I’d honestly look elsewhere. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but I would only recommend Black Bear Diner as a place for a big breakfast to start the day. It’s a place to get a hearty meal in a rustic and homey environment. This is the fourth or fifth Black Bear location I have been to and all have maintained a similar level of quality that has led to my obsession with this diner! There isn’t much I like about California, but Black Bear Diner is one of the best things to originate from this state and I look forward to visiting again.Black Bear Diner is part of a huge chain of restaurants that covers much of the United States. I believe they are 6 or 7 dollars a piece but very well worth it. I ordered a chocolate cream pie and a coconut cream pie to go. Overall the meal was great and it definitely hit the spot after a long day of driving. ![]() The meat was cooked to perfection and had just the right amount of seasoning. I ordered the Tri Tip Steak with mashed potatoes and gravy as well as green beans. As a trucker who eats everywhere all across the country, you come to find out good service is pretty hard to find but when you do find it, it is a special thing and Black Bear did not disappoint. Definitely one of the best waitresses I have encountered for awhile. ![]() The waitress was very kind and made sure I was taken care of. This location is kind of hidden back behind some hotel right by the 49er truck stop on I80. While not located in the best of areas, the quality of food and service was outstanding. Thank you! Moreīlack Bear Diner did it again. This is definitely a place I would recommend to anyone passing through looking for good food at reasonable prices and great service. When we paid and were on our way she wished us a pleasant evening, thanked us and hoped we enjoyed our visit. Each time she came by, she had a smile on offer. After she brought our food, she made sure everything was ok a couple of times, offered us dessert and brought the bill. She came by to check on how we liked them and let us know our meals would be up shortly. She gave us a few minutes to decide on our order, took it and returned quite quickly with our starters. This time, around 7:30, our server was Kayla, and she greeted us with a big smile, seated us and brought our drinks. On the next evening, after an exhausting day of exploring Sacramento, we decided, as we’d had such a positive experience the night before, to give it another go. with us several times and was very grateful with the gratuity we left. She was prompt with our drinks and helpful in suggesting a meal. We went for dinner on the Friday night around 9/9:30. We stayed at the best western across the street and figured we’d check this place out.
